Press Release
Wakestock Abu Dhabi, 4th – 6th March Press Release – Feb 2010
The WWA Wake World Series is just around the corner and this year it is the Middle East, in the form of Abu Dhabi, that will be kicking off the season as part of this globe trotting world tour of wakeboarding.
Wakestock Abu Dhabi is set to be an immense weekend, combining the ethos and vibe of the biggest Wake and Music festival out there with the absolute best in world wakeboarding. The top ranking riders from 2009 and ‘all-comers’ will be battling it out alongside the Pro Women for one of the few big ladies events this year, all hungry for a chunk of the biggest cash purse of any contest on the 2010 event calendar at $50 000.
Abu Dhabi have a truly visionary concept in their city with some of the most incredible landmarks on the planet including the brand new Yas Marina Racing circuit and the Ferrari theme park, and now Wakestock will sit alongside some of the incredible sporting events that the city is now hosting such as the Formula One, to become a regular feature on their event calendar and the wakeboard circuit.
To help the city’s locals further embrace a love of wakeboarding and the unrivalled beach side facilities in situ, Abu Dhabi Beaches, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi and Flash Entertainment have been working closely with the Wakestock UK team to promote all that comes with the sport and lifestyle of this unique and pioneering event. Having installed a System 2.0 a few weeks ago for a press trip promoting the festival weekend, Aaron Rathy, Dan Nott, Nick Davies and Amber Wing showcased wakeboarding for the public and press in all its glory allowing them not only to see what the sport is all about but also giving them the chance to take to the water for a proper taste of why wakeboarding is so addictive. The System 2.0 has been in place since offering free lessons to the public and will continue to introduce new people to the sport right up until and through the Wakestock weekend.
The event venue could not be more perfect, sitting on the Al-Sahil Beach at East Plaza on the stunning Corniche strip, the site offers all the protection needed for butter calm bath water, close proximity viewing of boat contest, Rococo Pool Gap event, the System 2.0 and of course, the main stage. The free weekend event will have locals and internationals alike bouncing to the beats of headliners Maximo Park, De La Soul and more on the beach and in the water for a full three days of festivities.
With Wakestock Abu Dhabi setting the temp for the season ahead, the series will move on to Brazil and then return to Wakestock UK, where it all began and where a few internationals have already had the pleasure of joining us for the party!
