Wakestock 2008 on Channel 4

It was obvious everyone was in full party mode and were treated to amazing sets by Groove Armada, Mark Ronson and the Version Players, The Streets, Funeral for a Friend, Duffy, Happy Mondays, Pendulum, Calvin Harris, Hadouken and many more. Radio 1 djs Jo Whiley, Zane Lowe and Huw Stephens were also on hand along with XFM’s Lee Haslam, Clint Boon & Gareth Brooks to make sure everyone was bouncing through all 3 nights! Relentless Wakestock 2008 also welcomed up on the festival site the return of the Pool Gap for the third year. The pools, containing 200,000 gallons of water, played host to the Vans Rococo Rail Tour featuring some of the best wakeskating and wakeboarding in the world right in front of the Open Air Main Stage.
Sun and showers were forecast but it was the sun that kicked in for the wakeboarding, which took place early each morning down at Pwllheli Marina. Friday saw the amateur qualifying rounds to secure a place in the pro competition over the weekend as well as the ever-popular Big Air event on Abersoch Main Beach. Eight riders went through to compete on Saturday morning in the first rounds of the Pro Competition. Saturday also saw the Women’s finals, which were decided in a hard fought battle. Sunday dawned bright and sunny for the Pro Final competition with a huge crowd enjoying fierce action from the best in the world competing for the most prestigious crown in wakeboarding.
The winners were presented with their awards on the Open Air Main Stage on Sunday evening. The men’s wakeboarding event was dominated by North Americans. Adam Errington (USA) took the top spot, with Aaron Rafferty (Can) second and third Danny Tholander (USA). UK rider Jules Healey won the ladies competition with Kath Moore (Australia) second and Jess Hilberry (UK) third. Danny Tholander also won the Friday evening Big Air competition. Relentless WAKESTOCK Blenheim was won by UK rider Dan Nott & Argentine Robbie Rendo, with Spaniard Cyril Cornaro taking the Big Air title.

What a weekend and what a success! Just like at Blenheim Palace the Relentless Wakestock party vibe kicked in with full force and the Wakestock crowd did us proud. Thanks for all your amazing feedback and making 2008 the best one yet. We’ve already got some really exciting developments coming together for next year, so keep checking the website. It is fair to say that Relentless Wakestock went down a storm, but just you wait for 2009 – Our 10th Birthday!
