Captain Kerry Gospel Wins BFBS Award for Army Wakeboarding

Sport plays an important role in the British Armed Forces and wakeboarding is taking it's place alongside other more established sports. Brett Hodgkins was recently on hand to present Captain Kerry Gospel with the 2007 BFBS Unsung Sporting Hero award.

The 2007 BFBS Unsung Sporting Hero is Capt Kerry Gospel, the man who has put Wakeboarding firmly on the map, not just for the Army but also for the other two services. He was presented with the BFBS Sports Trophy and a cheque for £500 by top UK and former World Number 3 wakeboarder Brett Hodgkins during the BFBS Sports review of the Year Programme.

Kerry said he would be spending the money to assist the Combined Services Championships in 2008 and to help to publicise the sport more.

Wakeboarding, is still very much in its infancy, but is the fastest growing water sport in the military.

The other top nominees were:

Ian Davies for his work with sport in BFG, particularly Rugby

And Sgt Tug Wilson, the senior coach of the RAF Under 23 Rugby side.
