Press Release
Graham Creedy reports:
Hi to all,
Yes it's True, we won the VOTE.
Yesterday, Sunday the 10th January 2010 at the British Waterski Federation AGM, Wakeboard UK raised a special resolution to change the brand name of British Waterski to British Waterski & Wakeboard. l am delighted to announce the good news informing you all that we were successful by 45 votes in favour and 33 against with 11 abstentions.
Going into the AGM without the support of the BWS management committee meant our chance of being successful was at best difficult. However, as we have proven over the years our sport and our athletes can rise to any challenge and overcome all difficulties. This was an outstanding result for all us British wakeboarders wherever this email finds you in the world this morning, whichever way you chose to enjoy our sport, on the back of a Boat or on the Cable.
I would like to personally thank all the UK clubs, riders, and people that supported my action by attending the AGM yesterday under difficult weather circumstances and those of you who where unable to attend but where there in spirit and support l thank you all!
It has taken 16 years from our humble beginnings within the federation to get to the position where we have made this historic change, let's not forget the federation has been in existence for over 60 years!
We have now overturned the view that wakeboarding is just a subcategory of waterskiing and we have all proven we we are our own sport, and worthy of the respect that that brings.
Now in the future we look forward to a change in the way our sport is represented to the UK sports authorities.
We still all have much work to be done and we will not see a drastic charge overnight but future wakeboarders will benefit from what we have achieved at this historic vote .
Again l thank you all
Graham Creedy
